Valdosta is 6-0 against Worth County since December of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Valdosta Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Worth County Rams at 7:30 p.m. Valdosta knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Worth County likes a good challenge.
Valdosta is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Veterans just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 65-64 to the Warhawks.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Brandon Brown, who went 9 of 16 en route to 26 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jabarri Williams, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten assists.
Even though they lost, Valdosta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Worth County). They walked away with a 73-62 win over Thomas County Central on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Rams as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Valdosta better keep an eye on ASHTON WILLIAMS. He was instrumental in Worth County's win, shooting 5-for-8 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 30 points and ten assists. That makes it six consecutive games in which WILLIAMS has scored at least a third of Worth County's points. Another player making a difference was GRANT JUSTER, who posted 15 points and three steals.
Valdosta's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Worth County, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Valdosta has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 42.1% of their three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Worth County, though, as they've only made 29.7% of their three-pointers this season. Given Valdosta's sizable advantage in that area, Worth County will need to find a way to close that gap.
Valdosta took their victory against Worth County when the teams last played last Friday by a conclusive 76-52. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was WILLIAMS, who went 10 of 17 on his way to 32 points along with six assists and six boards. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Valdosta still be able to contain WILLIAMS? There's only one way to find out.
