The Cotulla Cowboys pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 83-62 walloping at the hands of Lytle. While losing is never fun, Cotulla can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1561st, while Lytle is ranked 614th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lytle to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zacharee Perez, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Perez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Perez, who scored 22 points along with three steals.
Cotulla has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. As for Lytle, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 21-6.
Cotulla will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Natalia at 7:30 p.m. Natalia knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Cotulla likes a good challenge. As for Lytle, they will head out on the road to challenge Dilley at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Dilley has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29.
