Saguaro and Mesquite are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. Saguaro will be playing in front of their home fans against Mesquite at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Saguaro's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
Saguaro barely beat ALA - Queen Creek the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Saguaro's pitcher stepped up to hand ALA - Queen Creek a 7-0 shutout on Friday. The Sabercats haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Nate Wachinski's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kasen Williams, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Taichi Ebino, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Saguaro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ALA - Queen Creek only posted a batting average of .182.
Meanwhile, Mesquite was not the first on the board last Monday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against Eastmark by a score of 8-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Aidan Stenberg tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Kash Rogers was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Bently Sandall, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Mesquite pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Saguaro, their win bumped their record up to 7-5-1.
Everything went Saguaro's way against Mesquite in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Saguaro made off with an 11-5 victory. Does Saguaro have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mesquite turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
