Baseball Recap: Pike County Comes Up Short

Pike County had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 3-9-1 to make it five. They came up short against the Highland Home Flying Squadron, falling 22-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Flying Squadron this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on March 3rd.

Ben Patterson and Noah Terry stepped up to the plate in a big way. Patterson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Terry went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Patterson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Zaikeilin Adams was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

As for Highland Home, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The contest marked their most dominant win of the season.

On Highland Home's side, Cooper Mount made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Mount was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pike County will host Elba at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Highland Home, they will challenge Flomaton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Flying Squadron's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hurricanes have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
