Baseball Recap: Mountain Grove's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

After low-scoring totals in their previous five contest, Mountain Grove brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They put the hurt on the Mansfield Lions with a sharp 13-4 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Brayden Haughey and Sam Peterson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Haughey struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Peterson pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mountain Grove is 2-1 when Peterson allows one or fewer hits, but 8-13 otherwise. At the plate, Haughey went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Peterson got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs.

In other batting news, Eli Golden and Trace Harker did most of the damage at the plate: Golden went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one double, while Harker got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Harker has posted since back in March. Rusty Deaton was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Mountain Grove's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-14. As for Mansfield, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-8.

Looking ahead, Mountain Grove will face off against Fair Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mansfield, they will head out to challenge Fordland at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
