Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Shelbyville Central walked away with it. They took their contest at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 41-7 win over Hillsboro. Considering Shelbyville Central has won six matchups by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, Centennial was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 27-15 victory over Columbia Central. Given Centennial's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Columbia Central is ranked 95th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shelbyville Central has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 10-1 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-8 Spring Hill and 2-8 Coffee County Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.5% over those games). As for Centennial, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.
Shelbyville Central strolled past Centennial when the teams last played back in September of 2020 by a score of 44-28. Does Shelbyville Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will Centennial turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
