The Burges Mustangs will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Franklin Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, everything went Burges' way against Irvin as Burges made off with a 66-44 victory.
Burges' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Fernando Quian-ramirez, who scored 9 points along with 9 rebounds. Quian-ramirez hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Phillip A. leff, who scored 12 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Franklin strolled past Socorro with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 65-49. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Franklin.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Franklin to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ethan Martinez, who scored 13 points along with 5 assists. The game was Martinez's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Noah Hall was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with 5 rebounds.
The victory got Burges back to even at 2-2. As for Franklin, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Burges have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 44% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Franklin struggles in that department as they've nailed 40.9% of theirs this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Burges didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Franklin in their previous meeting back in November of 2018, but they still walked away with a 67-62 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Franklin's Roman Garcia, who scored 29 points along with 5 assists. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Burges to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
