Middletown is 0-5 against Southington since May of 2018 but things could change on Monday. The Blue Dragons will host the Blue Knights at 3:45 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Middletown is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over Platt on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Dragons in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.
Meanwhile, Southington had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. Everything went their way against the Terriers as they made off with a 12-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Blue Knights, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Shelby Jordan made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Reagan Salvatore was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Kenefick, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Southington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Southington's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Middletown, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
Middletown might still be hurting after the 14-0 defeat they got from Southington in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Blue Dragons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
