The Village Christian Crusaders and the Mayfair Monsoons squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Village Christian Crusaders had to settle for second. Village Christian and Mayfair were almost perfectly matched up, but Village Christian suffered an agonizing 39-38 loss. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
When it comes to explaining why Village Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zavontae Flournoy-Trice. Despite the final result, he rushed for 242 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry. Chase Everett was another key contributor, throwing for 175 yards and two touchdowns.
Mayfair's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jeremiah Calvin led the charge by throwing for 231 yards and four touchdowns. Mayfair also got a significant boost from Louis Johnson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 145 yards.
Village Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Mayfair, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.
Village Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mayfair will be playing in front of their home fans against Chino at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chino is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last nine games.
