Spanish Fork is 9-1 against Salem Hills since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Dons will square off against the Skyhawks at 3:30 p.m.
Spanish Fork's last matchup with Maple Mountain could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Friday. The Dons lost 11-4 to the Golden Eagles. The Dons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lia Higginson was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Mayci Shelly, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Salem Hills entered their tilt with Wasatch on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Wasps by a score of 10-5.
Keyana Murray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Salem Hills let Samaya Haveron and Emmery Wilson run wild. Haveron went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Wilson went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Camryn Guest was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Salem Hills hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least one batters in three consecutive matchups.
Salem Hills' record is now 21-2. As for Spanish Fork, they now have a losing record of 11-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Spanish Fork hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Salem Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Spanish Fork suffered a grim 17-2 defeat to Salem Hills when the teams last played on April 9th. Can the Dons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
