Baseball Recap: Regents Snags 16th Win in Last 17 Games

Regents won the last time they faced Bayou Academy and things went their way on Thursday too. The Lions put the hurt on the Colts with a sharp 13-6 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.

Sutton Gore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Regents let Hayes Leach and Jayce Wright run wild. Leach got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Wright went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave Wright a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Collins Blackburn, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Regents kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Regents has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Bayou Academy, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.

Regents does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bayou Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against St. Joseph Catholic at 6:00 p.m. The Bruins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.56 runs per game on average), something the Colts will no doubt try to take advantage of.
