Boerne is 5-0 against Somerset since September of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Boerne Greyhounds will look to defend their home field against the Somerset Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Boerne had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 63-0 win over John F. Kennedy at home. Given Boerne's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 220th, while John F. Kennedy is ranked 1016th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Boerne's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooks Perez, who picked up 105 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Ivan Perez, who rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Somerset was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past San Antonio Memorial 62-7 on the road.
Boerne's win was their seventh straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 John F. Kennedy and 1-7 San Antonio Memorial (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 44.8% over those games). As for Somerset, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Boerne took their win against Somerset when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 35-14. Will Boerne repeat their success, or does Somerset have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
