With a playoff game on the line, the Plant Panthers rose to the challenge on Friday. They snuck past Plant City with a 31-27 victory. Winning may never get old, but Plant sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.
Among those leading the charge was Waltez Clark, who rushed for 70 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Jarrett, who gained 99 total yards and a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Plant City saw an underclassman step up: Haven Pierce picked up 92 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Plant City's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Davin Stone-grant was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Plant has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.8 points per game. As for Plant City, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5.
Plant will play host again and welcome Dr. Phillips, where kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Dr. Phillips is ranked 94th, while Plant is ranked 96th). Plant City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
