The Johnstown Sir Bills will take on the Galway Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Monday, Johnstown came up short against Mayfield and fell 8-3. The Sir Bills haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Johnstown saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Iorio, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Galway entered their tilt with Hartford Central on Monday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tanagers a 24-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Avery Menge was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Courtney Smith was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Samantha Becker was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Galway was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive games.
Galway's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Johnstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Johnstown's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Sir Bills have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Galway, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Johnstown continue to outrun the ball?
