After each having a week off, the Greenwich Cardinals and the New Canaan Rams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated (Greenwich has eight wins dating back to last season, while New Canaan has 15 dating back to last season).
Greenwich is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Trumbull: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Cardinals blew the Eagles out of the water with a 44-7 final score. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked third, while the Eagles are ranked 44th) , the win last Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Hector Lopez(C), who rushed for 182 yards and one TD while picking up 10.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 43 receiving yards and one touchdown. Lopez(C) is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 104 every time he's taken the field this season. Phil Tarantino was in the mix too, providing Greenwich with two scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Greenwich was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 306 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 174 rushing yards in six consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last contest, New Canaan made sure to put some points up on the board against Danbury last Friday. The Rams simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Hatters 43-10. With the Rams ahead 29-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Greenwich better keep an eye on Henry Stein. He was instrumental in New Canaan's win, rushing for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries, while also picking up 40 receiving yards. The dominant performance also gave Stein a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Maddox Hoffman was another key player, throwing for 165 yards and a pair of TDs on perfect 12-for-12 passing.
New Canaan didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Blake Schwartz picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Greenwich's record now sits at 5-0. As for New Canaan, their record is now an identical 5-0.
Greenwich couldn't quite get it done against New Canaan in their previous meeting back in October of 2021 as they fell 14-7. Thankfully for the Cardinals, Henry Cunney (who rushed for 91 yards and two scores) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
