Stockbridge has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Northwest Mounties at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Stockbridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
Stockbridge struggled with threes on Tuesday (Ovid-Elsie had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Stockbridge lost to Ovid-Elsie at home by a decisive 64-50 margin.
Alaina Kellenberger put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Lockhart, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northwest entered their tilt with Harper Creek with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Northwest put the hurt on Harper Creek with a sharp 51-30 win on Friday. Given Northwest's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Harper Creek is ranked 346th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stockbridge's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Northwest, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1.
Stockbridge was taken down by Northwest 72-32 in their previous matchup back in January of 2016. Can Stockbridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
