St. Michael has gone a perfect 6-0 against McCurdy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Horsemen will be taking part in a tournament against the Bobcats at 3:00 p.m. St. Michael's is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.3 runs per game this season.
St. Michael's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Portales hitters got past them. The Horsemen fell 12-7 to the Rams on Tuesday. The loss was the Horsemen's first of the season.
Nadia Cedillo was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Mariella Ruiz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Karolina Ruiz, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, McCurdy suffered their closest loss since March 25th on Tuesday. They fell just short of Mora by a score of 7-5.
Isabella Perio was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariana Arambula, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
McCurdy has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. Having lost for the first time this season, St. Michael's fell to 9-1.
McCurdy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. Michael's has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for McCurdy, though, as they've been averaging 10.8 hits. Given St. Michael's sizable advantage in that area, the Bobcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
St. Michael's took their win against McCurdy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1 score. Will the Horsemen repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
