Basketball Recap: Make It Eight in a Row for Pamlico County

Pamlico County waltzed into their match on Saturday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They came out on top against the Greene Central Rams by a score of 61-49. Given the Hurricanes' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Rams are ranked 322nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pamlico County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nya Clark, who went 10 for 21 en route to 23 points. The game was Clark's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyliyah Barber, who posted 12 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds.

Pamlico County was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greene Central only racked up six assists.

Greene Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was An'Nysha Wooten, who had 15 points and eight boards. Wooten is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jayce Russell, who scored eight points along with 11 boards and three steals.

Pamlico County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Greene Central, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Pamlico County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 61-33 defeat against Northside - Pinetown on the 3rd. Greene Central has also already played their next game, a 48-25 win against Washington on the 4th.
