They were just one part of a punishing run game: Kirtland was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 228 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 178 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Berkshire's offense rose to the challenge against a Rovers defense that boasted an average of only 10.67 points allowed on Friday. The Badgers took their matchup with ease, bagging a 43-16 victory over Rootstown. With the Badgers ahead 29-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Kirtland better keep an eye on Sam Barcikoski. Barcikoski's longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Oliver Miller was another key player, gaining 92 total yards and two touchdowns.
One reason for the win was Berkshire's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Nathan Fultz was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.
Kirtland's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Berkshire, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Kirtland has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 322.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Berkshire struggles in that department as they've been averaging 165.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Kirtland against Berkshire when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 46-11 win. In that game, the Hornets amassed a halftime lead of 46-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
