The Armijo Royals will challenge the Fairfield Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Armijo comes in on seven and Fairfield on three.
On Wednesday, Armijo got the win against Burbank by a conclusive 25-1. Considering the Royals have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kamryn Talley made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-6 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Talbot, who fired off nine RBI, five runs, and two triples while going 6-for-6. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.2 RBI per game. Charlotte Spears also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Armijo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 27 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Fairfield got themselves on the board against Foothill on Wednesday, but Foothill never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 11-0 win. Considering the Falcons have won six contests by more than ten runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Armijo, Fairfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Karli Robinson. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over six innings pitched. Robinson has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Kaya Lanzon and Bethany Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Lanzon went 1-for-4 with one home run, while Johnson went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Mariah Giron was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Fairfield now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Armijo, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Armijo has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fairfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Armijo was able to grind out a solid win over Fairfield in their previous matchup back in March, winning 11-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
