Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Highlands Bluebirds walked away with it. They breezed by Dixie Heights at home to the tune of 40-7. Winning may never get old, but Highlands sure are getting used to it with their tenth in a row.
Highlands had a senior duo take command as Brody Benke rushed for 194 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries and Cam Giesler rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per carry. Benke was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards.
Highlands' win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.2 points per game. As for Dixie Heights, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
Highlands does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Dixie Heights will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Scott at 7:00 p.m. on September 13, 2024. Scott is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
