Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Anthony Rezac of
Omaha Westside (Omaha) is the 2023 MaxPreps Nebraska High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound senior quarterback led the Warriors to a 13-0 record and Class A state title.
In the state championship game, Rezac completed 20 of 25 passes for 244 yards while accounting for three touchdowns in a 56-0 win over Elkhorn South. That effort helped the Warriors complete back-to-back title conquests.

For the season, Rezac threw for 2,316 yards and 30 touchdowns against five interceptions while completing 73.4 percent of his attempts. He added 905 yards and 15 more scores on the ground. He threw for a season-high 285 yards to go along with four TDs in a 41-0 win over Norfolk in September.
Rezac finished his Omaha Westside career with over 8,000 yards of total offense and 104 touchdowns through the air and on the ground. The Warriors went 35-2 with him as the starting quarterback.
Regarded as a three-star prospect by
247Sports, Rezac announced his commitment to Notre Dame last month as a preferred walk-on. His twin brother, Teddy, committed to Notre Dame in May.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
