The Atkins Camels and the Ben L. Smith Golden Eagles will face off at 8:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Atkins knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Ben L. Smith likes a good challenge.
Atkins pushed their score all the way to 76 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Shining Light Academy 81-76. While losing is never fun, Atkins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 425th, while Shining Light Academy is ranked 186th).
Atkins' defeat came about despite a quality game from Princeton Scott, who scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scott has scored all season. Kaleb Roope was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Ben L. Smith's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 53-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Dudley. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Ben L. Smith has scored all season.
Atkins' loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Ben L. Smith, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-3.
Atkins might still be hurting after the 77-53 loss they got from Ben L. Smith in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Atkins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
