The North Wilkes Vikings waltzed into Wednesday's game with two straight wins but they left with three. They put the hurt on R.J. Reynolds with a sharp 64-44 victory. This was payback for North Wilkes, who suffered a 52-40 loss the last time these two teams met.
Elliott Jessup and Shyla Simms certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Jessup dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Simms scored 21 points along with 5 rebounds. The contest was Simms' third in a row with at least ten points. Millie Powers was another key contributor, scoring 2 points along with 7 rebounds.
North Wilkes' win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for R.J. Reynolds, their loss dropped their record down to 2-1.
North Wilkes will head out on the road to face off against Watauga at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Watauga focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday. As for R.J. Reynolds, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Atkins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
