The Discovery Canyon Thunder suffered their biggest loss since November 30, 2023 on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Air Academy at home and fell 82-49. While losing is never fun, Discovery Canyon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Air Academy is ranked sixth).
Despite the loss, Discovery Canyon still got an impressive performance from Meghan Storch, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals. Storch is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Neuhaus, who scored 13 points.
Leading Air Academy to victory were Lydia Flowers and Caitlin Kramer. Flowers went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 9 assists, while Kramer scored 29 points along with nine assists and seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Kramer posted eight or more assists. Tatyonna Brown was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Discovery Canyon and nudges their season record down to 6-8. As for Air Academy, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Discovery Canyon will square off against Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lutheran will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Air Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Cheyenne Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cheyenne Mountain is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
