Basketball Recap: Mercy Prep Academy Victorious

There's no place like home for Mercy Prep Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They escaped with a win on Friday against the Excel Christian Academy Eagles by the margin of a single free throw, 52-51. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 72-69 back in December of 2024.

Mercy Prep Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Eli Lawson out in front who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. That's the most points Lawson has posted since back in November of 2024. Bradley Lewis was another key player, putting up seven points along with nine boards and five assists.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaiden Ward, who had 20 points. Ward has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jay Wyatt Hoskins, who put up 13 points.

Mercy Prep Academy's record is now 16-6. As for Excel Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.

Mercy Prep Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-39 defeat against Grayson Christian on the 15th. As for Excel Christian Academy, they have also already played their next matchup, a 67-39 win against Waco Christian on the 15th.
