The Pueblo South Colts waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 58-46 victory over Pueblo County. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, as Pueblo South did.
Pueblo South got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maurice Austin out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Austin is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Caeden Herrera, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Defeat or not, Pueblo County got some senior leadership from Johnathan Gonzales and Dominic Mauro. Gonzales scored 17 points along with two steals, while Mauro. scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Mauro hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games.
Pueblo South has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for Pueblo County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pueblo South will take on Pueblo West at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pueblo West has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 479 points over their last seven matchups. As for Pueblo County, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Pueblo East at 7:30 p.m. Pueblo East is coming into the contest with five straight losses on the road, meaning Pueblo County will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
