Rocky Mountain is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Owyhee is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Grizzlies will host the Storm at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Rocky Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Rocky Mountain had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Ridgevue on Thursday. The Grizzlies were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Warhawks. The Grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Warhawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Danica Quinn made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Megan McCormick, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Windau, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Rocky Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Owyhee faced Timberline in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Storm never let the Wolves get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Storm have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Not much got past Hailey Brennan, who gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Timberline off the board.
At the plate, Owyhee's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Elysa Gaytan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Owyhee's victory bumped their record up to 15-0. As for Rocky Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Rocky Mountain hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Owyhee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Rocky Mountain suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Owyhee in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Grizzlies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
