The Savannah Savages will take on the Kearney Bulldogs at TBD on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Savannah took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 70-6 win over Lafayette. The victory was just what Savannah needed coming off of a 34-13 defeat in their prior contest.
It was another big night for Cade Chappell, who rushed for 140 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries. Zayden Snapp also helped out with an impressive 116 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Kearney entered their tilt with Benton with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Kearney blew past Benton, posting a 56-6 victory at home. Given Kearney's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Benton is ranked 230th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Savannah's victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-11 Lafayette and 1-9 Lafayette (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.7% over those games). As for Kearney, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Savannah took a serious blow against Kearney in their previous meeting back in October of 2016, falling 55-0. Can Savannah avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
