The Steeleville Warriors entered their tilt with the Valmeyer Pirates with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Steeleville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 40-37 win over the Pirates on Thursday. This was payback for Steeleville, who suffered a 48-38 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Steeleville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rylan Reiss led the charge by scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Reiss is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Cole, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Valmeyer lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ava Reeves, who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reeves has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Avery Proffer, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Steeleville's win bumped their record up to 11-13. As for Valmeyer, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Steeleville's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Valmeyer will take on the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
