Mountain View has gone 9-1 against Centennial recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mavericks will welcome the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Mountain View is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Eagle, who was ranked fourth at the time (Mountain View was ranked first). The Mavericks took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs on Thursday. The matchup marked the Mavericks' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Meanwhile, Centennial hadn't done well against Borah recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 12-2 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Patriots considering their one-run performance the game before.
Daniel Morrison made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Joaquin Moreno was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Jared Welker also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Centennial's victory bumped their record up to 15-11. As for Mountain View, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-5.
Centennial's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mountain View has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .479. It's a different story for Centennial, though, as they've only averaged .354. Will they be able to contain Mountain View's hitters?
Mountain View was able to grind out a solid win over Centennial when the teams last played back in April, winning 4-0. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
