It was a good run, but the Sickles Gryphons unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost to Cardinal Mooney on the road by a decisive 68-54 margin. While losing is never fun, Sickles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while Cardinal Mooney is ranked 16th).
When it comes to explaining why Sickles lost, one person who can't be blamed is Beckham Hockley. Despite the final result, she scored 24 points. Hockley hasn't dropped below 15points for 11 straight games. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Sharpe, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cardinal Mooney to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kali Barrett, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Barrett is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Madi Mignery was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Sickles' loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Cardinal Mooney, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sickles will take on Tampa Bay Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cardinal Mooney, they will head out on the road to square off against Booker at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
