The Greater Nanticoke Area Trojans will challenge the Pittston Patriots at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Monday, Greater Nanticoke Area came up short against Wilkes-Barre and fell 5-2.
Derek Miller was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Miller wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Derek Shemanski, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Serafino Raggi also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Pittston put another one in the bag on Sunday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Wyoming Area. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
TJ Johnson looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nick Innamorati, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Richard Tonte was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Pittston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wyoming Area only posted a batting average of .133.
Pittston pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Greater Nanticoke Area, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.
Greater Nanticoke Area came out on top in a nail-biter against Pittston in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
