Spring is a perfect 10-0 against Dekaney since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Spring Lions challenge Dekaney Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. One thing working in Spring's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
Spring gave up the first runs last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past MacArthur 11-1.
Mikayla Zepeda spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hailey Jones-Calais, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Xaida Bettis was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Spring was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Dekaney unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak last Friday. They came up short against Eisenhower, falling 15-4.
Zoe Trevi?o was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Benitez, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Spring pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Dekaney, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-3.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Spring has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .482. However, it's not like Dekaney struggles in that department as they've averaged .621. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Spring took their win against Dekaney in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spring since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
