Basketball Recap: Central's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

After flying high against Grossmont last Thursday, Central came back down to earth. The Central Spartans fell to the Monte Vista Monarchs 52-47. The matchup marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Central lost on Friday, don't look at Daimaggio Wyatt. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 boards. Wyatt is becoming a predictor of Central's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 6-2 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Joap Soto Chavez, who posted eight points and four steals.

With the loss, Central broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4. As for Monte Vista, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-8.

Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Santana at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The timing isn't great for Santana: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Central has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. As for Monte Vista, they will also get right back to it: they'll take on High Tech CV at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. High Tech CV is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.4 points per game this season.
