The Wesson Cobras will venture away from home to face off against the Natchez Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wesson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Wesson's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Jefferson County 18-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cobras.
Wesson got a big performance out of Baylor Smith, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1. That's the most runs Smith has posted since back in March of 2024. Wyatt Garrett also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Wesson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 17 runs the game before, Natchez was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They lost 11-1 to North Pike. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Jaguars recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Chris Sewell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Four bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more stolen bases the last three times he's played.
Wesson pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Natchez, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wesson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .526. However, it's not like Natchez struggles in that department as they've averaged .467. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Wesson's way against Natchez in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Wesson made off with a 14-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wesson since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
