Baseball Recap: Phillips Academy Takes a Loss

Phillips Academy dropped their record down to 4-6 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Winchendon Wapiti by a score of 7-6. If the Big Blue were looking for revenge after losing 7-4 to the Wapiti when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Phillips Academy got a good showing from Jacob Honor, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Honor has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Phillips Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mikah Krystofolski, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Miles O'Neil also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Winchendon, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Winchendon's side, Willie Torres looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, Ryan Ruggiero was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. CJ Jones was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Phillips Academy will head out to face off against Poly Prep Country Day at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Blue Devils will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Big Blue surely won't give up without a fight. As for Winchendon, they will take on Belmont Hill at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
