Watauga and South Caldwell squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Watauga had to settle for second. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans. The Pioneers' defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.

Maddox Greene made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Burroughs, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Watauga's loss dropped their record down to 17-12. As for South Caldwell, their victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-2.

Watauga does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Caldwell, they will host Marvin Ridge on Tuesday. The Mavericks' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
