Baseball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is St. Joseph's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

While St. Joseph didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on The Pilgrim Academy Pioneers with a sharp 12-1 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won six matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

St. Joseph got a big performance out of Bobby Butkus, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave Butkus a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Cassidy, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

St. Joseph always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Pilgrim Academy only posted an OBP of .250.

St. Joseph is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for The Pilgrim Academy, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Coming up, St. Joseph will welcome Buena at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chiefs have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for The Pilgrim Academy, they will face off against Varsity Opponent at 4:00 p.m. on May 2.
