Basketball Recap: Purvis' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Purvis unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 46-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mize Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Tornadoes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 83rd).

Despite the loss, Purvis saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zoey Robinson dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. Robinson is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Breleigh Adkins was another key player, putting up six points along with ten rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Purvis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in 13 consecutive matches.

Purvis now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Mize, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Purvis will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lawrence County at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Mize, they will venture away from home to face off against Petal at 11:00 a.m. on December 28th.
