This season hasn't been kind to the Elkhart Lions, who are still winless after their 13th match. They fell 53-41 to Tippecanoe Valley on Friday. While losing is never fun, Elkhart can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 365th, while Tippecanoe Valley is ranked 168th).
Despite the loss, Elkhart still got an impressive performance from Tumarye Morris, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Morris has scored all season. Frankie Willis was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Elkhart struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Tippecanoe Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ian Cooksey out in front who scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Davis Cowan, who scored eight points along with five assists and four steals.
Elkhart bumped their record down to 0-13 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Tippecanoe Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elkhart will take on Plymouth at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Plymouth focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. Tippecanoe Valley won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Anderson at 7:30 p.m. on January 20th. Allowing an average of 50.4 points per game, Anderson has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this matchup.
