Baseball Recap: Kasson-Mantorville Drops Season-High Score on Zumbrota-Mazeppa

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Kasson-Mantorville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top against the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars by a score of 13-8. The Komets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Grady Babcock and Sam Graunke were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Babcock pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Graunke tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Babcock also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Kasson-Mantorville is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-5 otherwise. At bat, Babcock went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Graunke got on base in three of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those four RBI gave Babcock a new career-high.

In other batting news, Braden Lawrence was excellent, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Holden Bolster, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with three runs.

Kasson-Mantorville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Kasson-Mantorville has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Zumbrota-Mazeppa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.

Coming up, Kasson-Mantorville will face off against Winona at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Zumbrota-Mazeppa will be paying especially close attention to the Komets' game: after the Komets face off against the Winhawks, they'll take on Zumbrota-Mazeppa again at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
