The Northland Vikings scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They took down Columbus International 80-62. The victory was just what Northland needed coming off of a 66-25 loss in their prior match.
When it comes to explaining why Columbus International lost, one person who can't be blamed is Leila Carter. Despite the final result, she shot 8-for-12 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 55 points and 22 rebounds. That was a full 88.7% of Columbus International's points, marking the 15th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamaya Watkins, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Northland's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Columbus International, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.
Northland won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mifflin at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Mifflin has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12. As for Columbus International, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Linden-McKinley at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Linden-McKinley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Monday.
