The St. Paul/Palmer Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Adams Central Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, St. Paul/Palmer put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Aurora. The Wildcats not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 22nd (when they won 10-0).
Braxton Heater was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Layne Baker was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Adams Central put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Omaha Northwest a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Patriots have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Nick Mousel made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liam Dyer, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Wahlmeier, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Adams Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.
Adams Central has been performing well recently as they've won 15 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Paul/Palmer, their record is now 9-6.
St. Paul/Palmer skirted past Adams Central 6-5 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
