Given East New York Family Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Dewey is ranked 504th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Arianna Mercado continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 30 points along with seven steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of East New York Family Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Olivia Eugene, who scored 22 points along with six assists and three steals.
East New York Family Academy's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Dewey, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East New York Family Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Friendship Collegiate Academy at 11:00 a.m. on January 13th. Friendship Collegiate Academy will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Dewey, they will be playing at home against Midwood at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Midwood is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
