The Central Montcalm Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Chesaning Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Central Montcalm sitting on three straight wins and Chesaning on eight.
Central Montcalm put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Lakeview, posting a 39-7 victory on the road. That's two games straight that Central Montcalm has won by exactly 32 points.
Central Montcalm can attribute much of their success to Anthony Schultz, who rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Schultz is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Mccoy Wernholm also helped out as he racked up 109 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, Chesaning stacked a third blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 44-6 win over Carrollton/Saginaw on the road. Given Chesaning's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Carrollton/Saginaw is ranked 419th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Brayden Florian, who rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, and also picked up 43 receiving yards. Florian hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for eight straight games. Brady Sager also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Chesaning's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Carrollton/Saginaw's QB won't forget Mikey Clover anytime soon given Clover sacked him five times.
Central Montcalm now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Chesaning, their win was their eighth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Central Montcalm has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 219.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Chesaning struggles in that department as they've been averaging 216.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
