On Thursday, the Thompson Warriors's game was all tied up 19-19 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 49-41 win over Stone Memorial. Given Thompson's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 19th in Alabama, while Stone Memorial is ranked 68th in Tennessee), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Stone Memorial lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cade Capps. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The match was Capps' 13th in a row with at least ten points. Wyatt Grothe was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Thompson has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Stone Memorial, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.
Thompson will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Durant at 5:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Hopefully Durant focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday. Stone Memorial won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Chipley at 2:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. One thing working in Chipley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games.
