Baseball Game Preview: Windermere Prep Lakers vs. Bishop Moore Hornets

Windermere Prep is 0-6 against Bishop Moore since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Lakers will challenge the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. Windermere Prep will be strutting in after a victory while Bishop Moore will be coming in after a defeat.

Windermere Prep gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Crooms Academy by a score of 5-2. The Lakers haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Matthew Kirk spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Windermere Prep's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Montalvo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Justin Wang was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Bishop Moore and The First Academy meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Hornets fell 6-1 to the Royals. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Hornets couldn't push the score so high this time.

Bishop Moore also got a good showing from Tony Castro, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

Windermere Prep's win bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Bishop Moore, their loss dropped their record down to 17-7.

Windermere Prep might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Bishop Moore in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can the Lakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
