The Webster County Highlanders will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Braxton County Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 15th. Hopefully Webster County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Thursday.
Webster County struggled with assists last Thursday (James Monroe had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Webster County took a 59-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of James Monroe. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Webster County has scored all season.
Despite their defeat, Webster County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Riley Clevenger, who scored 17 points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Raydan Triplett, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Braxton County had to endure an 11-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 67-58 win over Calhoun on Friday. The victory was just what Braxton County needed coming off of a 71-49 defeat in their prior matchup.
Webster County's loss dropped their record down to 6-1. As for Braxton County, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6.
Webster County couldn't quite finish off Braxton County in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 58-56. Can Webster County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
