After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Jupiter, the Olympic Heights Lions were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 60-57 victory over Park Vista. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Olympic Heights' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Harbatkin, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Harbatkin continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Harrison Cohen, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Park Vista had strong showings from Anthony Sarmiento, who scored 16 points, and Joshua Riviere, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Sarmiento scored 15 or more points. Jean Garcia was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Olympic Heights has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Park Vista, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13.
Olympic Heights will head out on the road to face off against Atlantic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Atlantic's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games. As for Park Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Santaluces at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Decarious Jenkins and Tray Goldwire.
